Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how DoDC ("we," "us," or "our"), operator of Do Door County (dodoorcounty.com, the "Site"), handles information when you visit. Do Door County is a curated map of publicly shared social-media posts about places in Door County, Wisconsin.

The short version

Information we collect

• Server and log data. Like most websites, our host automatically records standard technical information when you visit — such as your IP address, browser type, device and operating system, pages requested, and the date and time. This is used to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the Site.
• Essential local storage. The Site may store small technical values in your browser for basic functionality (for example, remembering a filter). Administrative sign-in for site curators uses your browser's local storage to hold a session token; this applies only to authorized administrators, not general visitors.
• Weekly email sign-ups. If you sign up for The Weekly Chart, the email address you enter is sent to our email provider, Brevo, which stores it on our subscriber list, sends you a link to confirm, and delivers the weekly email. We do not keep a copy of your address on our own servers. To slow down spam, our server keeps an anonymized (one-way hashed) version of the signing-up connection's IP address and the page you signed up from for up to 30 days.
• Email engagement. Like most email services, Brevo records whether a weekly email was delivered, opened, or had a link clicked, and links to our own pages carry a tag showing they came from the email. We use this only in aggregate, to see which parts of the email are useful.
• We do not knowingly collect names, payment details, or precise location from visitors, because we do not ask for them.

Third-party content and services

The Site relies on the following third parties, each with its own privacy practices:

• Social media embeds (TikTok, Instagram/Meta). Individual posts are shown using the platforms' official embed players. When you open a spot that has a video, the embed loads from the platform, which may set its own cookies and receive data about your visit under its own privacy policy.
• Map tiles (OpenStreetMap). Map imagery is served by OpenStreetMap; your IP address is shared with its tile servers to deliver the map.
• Business information and photos (Google). Place details and photos are retrieved from Google's Places service and shown with any required attributions.
• Email delivery (Brevo). If you sign up for the weekly email, Brevo (Sendinblue SAS) stores your email address and sends the email on our behalf under its own privacy policy.
• Analytics (Google Analytics). Used to measure Site traffic in aggregate, as described under Cookies and tracking.
• Web hosting (Hostinger). Our hosting provider processes server logs on our behalf.

We do not control, and are not responsible for, the data practices of these third parties. Please review their privacy policies for details.

Cookies and tracking

We use Google Analytics to understand, in aggregate, how visitors use the Site (for example, which pages are popular and how people arrive). Google Analytics sets its own cookies and receives information such as your IP address, browser and pages viewed, under Google's privacy policy. You can opt out with Google's browser add-on or by blocking cookies in your browser. The Site does not use advertising cookies; if that changes, we will update this policy and, where required, ask for consent first. Third-party social embeds set their own cookies when they load, as described above.

How we use information

We use the limited technical data we receive to provide and maintain the Site, monitor and improve performance, keep the Site secure, and comply with legal obligations.

If you sign up for the weekly email, we use your address only to send it. We never sell it or share it with advertisers.

Unsubscribing

Every weekly email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click removes you from the list. You can also email help@dodoorcounty.com and we will remove you and ask Brevo to delete your address.

Sharing

We do not sell or rent personal information. We may share information with service providers who help us operate the Site (such as our host and our email provider), or when required by law, or to protect our rights and the safety of others.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live (for example, the EU/UK under GDPR, or California under the CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you, or to object to certain processing. Because we collect very little, our records about any individual visitor are typically limited to server logs and, if you signed up, your email address held by Brevo. To make a request, contact us at help@dodoorcounty.com and we will respond as required by applicable law.

Children

The Site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Data retention and security

Server logs are retained for a limited period consistent with normal hosting operations. Weekly email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the Site, though no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
